We were celebrating apple day in our usual delicious way. Freshly pressed apple juice, followed by Normandy meatballs with cider and apple sauce, with all the accompaniments. Followed up with a delicious apple cake and custard. For those that had any room left there was an applewood cheese board to finish. Absolutely scrumptious!
It is a very proud day for all of us at The Old Vicarage to announce that we have been shortlisted in three categories for the prestigious 'Caring UK' Awards:
Best Catering Team
Best Care Home (South West) &
A lifetime Acheivement Award - for Pat and Mike
Today we welcomed Oliver from Caring UK, who met our residents and staff and heard all about what we get up to! Fingers crossed for the awards ceremony in December...
And congratulations to Pat and Mike...
Pat and Mike have been shortlisted for ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award for their devotion and commitment to The Old Vicarage Residents. They established the family-run home 30 years ago and have worked non-stop ever since to make it the special place that it is - we are very proud of them!
National Poetry Day is a UK-wide celebration of poetry which takes place every October. We have been celebrating poetry’s power to bring people together, with our staff and residents choosing their favourite poems to be read out. We had some beautiful readers and some absolutely wonderful poems chosen. What a lovely and relaxing afternoon!
A big thank you to our local clergy for a wonderful Harvest service and for joining us for a lovely, sociable harvest supper. Also a huge thank you for all the hard work behind the scenes, with the decorations, flowers and the preparation of a delicious supper. So nice to have residents, family, friends and staff all joining in.
We are busy arranging flowers and vegetables for our harvest festival display. Tomorrow we will be having a lovely service, followed by a lovely supper together to give thanks for our beautiful and bountiful Devonshire surroundings.
Residents, staff, friends, family and villagers have helped us to raise a fantastic £700 for Hospiscare! We had a lovely time doing it as well!
We've been hard at work preparing to welcome friends, family and locals in for our Hospiscare coffee morning. Recreating a vintage tea room, ready for our baked delights to make it a party!
Spatulas at the ready, food mixers prepared, ingredients sourced, family members asked for recipies... The Old Vicarage Bake Off is ready to begin! Our competitive spirits have been ignited, we have sponge cakes, chocolate fudge, swiss rolls, scones, tiffin, banana cake, apple cake, flap jacks and even a 'mystery cake' not to be named until the day. All in all its going to be a tough competition and a very yummy morning on Thursday testint them all!!
Here are some photos of the handmade decorations ready to go on the cup cakes.
