Our Caring Community
The Old Vicarage 'family' is located in the village of Otterton, which is a friendly place with a caring community spirit. As Otterton villagers our residents play an active part in their community.
Community Events
Often care homes are shrouded in mystery and day to day life stays behind closed doors. Here at The Old Vicarage, we like to open our doors to our community and share what we do. We like to be open, honest and informative about the services we provide and the way the home runs. We carefully use social media and our blog to dispel any myths about what goes on inside our home. This lets people know what daily life is like at The Old Vicarage and all that we've been up to.
Our residents are able to be a part of their local community, and able to access the varied events in the local calendar. Being a part of such a close-knit community helps to give us a sense of belonging and a purpose. Belonging to a community, both inside and outside the home means there are plenty of opportunities to make new friends and reduce any feelings of loneliness. We have several events throughout the year where we invite friends from our local community to join us, such as Harvest Festival and Christmas 'At Home', and village carol singers. We like to make sure that all our friends in the community receive a warm welcome. In June of each year the residents of The Old Vicarage host a coffee morning in the garden, to raise funds for the village school and local charities. After browsing our stalls of home produce, cakes, plants, nearly new, tombolla and arts and crafts, the Ottterton School students perform their well-practiced country dancing routines on the front lawn for us all. The annual event has become one of the highlights of the Otterton village calendar. Our residents join in many village events throughout the year, including the village spring and autumn shows, the annual church flower festival, and village open gardens. |
